Regulating Your Nervous System During Turbulent Times

Regulating Your Nervous System During Turbulent Times

July 30, 2022

When your nervous system is unregulated- your body goes into fight or flight mode. Your trauma responses kick up and this can make you severely anxious and panic. I hope these tips help you guys out.

JOURNAL ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL
Give your emotions a voice. Give them power. Validate them. What you feel is real, strong and present for you. Let it alllll out on paper. Vent in your diary.

LISTEN TO A MEDITATION
Ground yourself by listening to a guided or instrumental meditation. Come back home to yourself. When you're anxious and stressed- your breath becomes more shallow. Remember to breathe.

ASK FOR SUPPORT
Ask for support from someone you trust. Someone who can innerstand what you're going through. Choose someone that can hold space for you.

GO OUT IN NATURE
Going out in nature reduces oxidative stress. Hugging and connecting with a tree removes stress. Go out in nature, stick your feet in the grass or dirt and ground yourself back to the Great Mother.

FIND A HEALTHY DISTRACTION
Sometimes it's way too many emotions you deal with and you need a distraction. Nothing wrong with watching a wholesome movie, reading a book, playing a game, or having some fun to distract yourself from being overwhelmed.

GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA
We all deal with things differently. Feeling into everyone's energies online can be overwhelming. Listening to other people tell you how to feel, how to look and what to do can be too much. Especially during turbulent times, you'll be doom scrolling.

MAKE HERBAL TEAS
Make some anti-anxiety tea. A hot drink feels like a warm hug to your body. My favorite calming herbs are lavender and blue butterfly pea tea. Chamomile and valerian root are good sedatives too. They will help you go to sleep if you have trouble sleeping.

HAVE MOVEMENT
Movement based activities help you release anxiety. Do some exercise, go out for a walk in nature, or my personal favorite-DANCE. Anxiety is an active emotion so sometimes sitting in one place can make it worse. Release your anxiety through movement.

TAKE A WARM SPIRITUAL BATH
Take a warm bath and let the water run over you. Water is super cleansing and grounding. Visualize all the anxiety coming off. Be sure to add some herbs, essential oils and Epsom salts to your hot bath.

STIMULATE THE 5 SENSES
Anxiety can make you live in your head. It makes your brain overactive. You need to do things that will bring you back into your body. Things that make you FEEL or something you can touch with your five senses.
Aromatherapy
Lighting my favorite incense always makes me feel better instantly. Aromatic scents can calm you down and provide you with more peace.
Listening to music
Listening to some calming music, piano music, classical music, binaural beats are all very helpful. Music can shift our entire moods! Put on a peaceful playlist. Trap and rap may be counterproductive.
Hugs and Cuddles
Do you know about the power of a hug? Go hug your dog or cat. Hug your child, your mom, friend or partner. See how much better you feel. The feeling of warmth and being held is instantly healing.
I truly hope these help! They have helped me get through these trying times we are currently in and still act as a healing grace. Thanks for reading!

With Love,

Kara
